SBVCP
GIVING THE GIFT OF SIGHT BEGINS AT HOME
In the late 1980's, SEE International formed the Santa Barbara Vision Care Program (SBVCP) in response to the immense population within our community that could not afford vision care. Without access to proper vision care, a person is at increased risk of suffering from visual impairment or even blindness
The purpose of SBVCP is to save eyesight before there is a problem through early detection and to restore the eyesight of patients requiring surgery.
SBVCP offers free glaucoma and vision screening, prescriptions and certificates for eyeglasses, medication for acute eye infections, and eye surgery.
We make a tremendous impact in the lives of hundreds of Santa Barbara County residents each year. In 2007, SBVCP provided 473 vision screenings and 4 sight-restoring surgeries.

PATIENT TESTIMONIALS
Oscar
Oscar was having difficulties in school because he could not see the chalkboard and his classmates often teased him, calling him "blind boy". Oscar’s mother brought him to a SBVCP clinic where he was diagnosed with the eye muscle dysfunction, strabismus. Surgery was performed and Oscar’s appearance and self confidence dramatically changed.
Today, Oscar is an active and charming young man.
Josephine
64-year old Josephine was losing her eyesight and visited a SBVCP clinic. Volunteer SBVCP doctors diagnosed her glaucoma and immediately prescribed medication for Josephine.
Today, Josephine’s eyesight is stabilized thanks to the care of doctors, medication, and close monitoring. If she had not visited a SBVCP clinic, it is likely that Josephine would not have sight today.
