Medical Advisory Committee Charter
Purpose
The Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) serves to advise the SEE International Board, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director and Program staff on medical matters related to SEE’s operations and planning.
Membership
The Chief Medical Officer will chair the MAC, and the Medical Director will be a standing member of the committee. Other members will be board members or non-board members who meet the following criteria:
- M.D. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology
- In active surgical practice with an understanding and experience with the surgical needs and issues of ophthalmic surgery in resource-scare locations.
The committee shall have a minimum of three members and a maximum of seven members. The committee is closed to non-members of the committee and the public.
Authority
The committee is advisory in nature and has no expressed or implied power or authority.
Responsibilities
The committee will review and advise on topics requested by the CMO, Medical Director or VP-Programs. These are likely to include:
- Long-term programmatic goals
- Medical guidelines and implementation plans for new medical programs
- Standard supplies and equipment
- Method of evaluating expedition performance
- Medical policies and procedures
- Definition of severity tiers and review of trends in medical/surgical quality issues
- Evaluation of SBVC physicians and program
- Findings and recommendations of the Education Steering Committees (Resource Library and LINKS)
The committee will review its charter at least biannually and recommend any proposed changes to the board for review.
Meetings
The committee will meet virtually as requested.
