October 12, 2017 was World Sight Day! Every year, on the the second Thursday of October, vision care organizations like SEE draw global attention towards avoidable blindness.
Since the 2017 call to action was “Make Vision Count,” we wanted to do something special this year. So in honor of World Sight Day 2017, SEE’s Board of Directors matched all donations made in October, up to $20,000!
The donations received in October helped SEE provide twice as many treatments and screenings for people in need. Thus our generous donors helped change twice as many lives for the better, giving many a brighter outlook on life. And, of course, any additional gifts received for this campaign went toward our sight-restoring work!

About World Sight Day
World Sight Day became an official IAPB event in the year 2000. Since then, SEE has taken the opportunity to highlight the fact that 80% of blindness is avoidable (i.e. preventable and/or treatable). World Sight Day provides a platform for organisations to encourage governments, corporations, institutions and individuals to actively support global blindness prevention efforts.
World Sight Day is supported by over 150 IAPB member organizations. These include every major eye care NGO in the world, apex professional bodies for ophthalmology and optometry, teaching hospitals, and corporations. We are united in working together to eliminate avoidable blindness and visual impairment.
