Summary:
The optometrist will be responsible for delivering high-quality vision care to patients within the SEE Vision Care program, part of SEE International. This role involves diagnosing and treating eye-related disorders and conditions through a variety of services. The optometrist will provide care at the Goleta clinic location and will also be required to travel monthly to Carpinteria to deliver services via the mobile unit. Additionally, the optometrist will play a key role in delivering eye care services to underserved populations by visiting local farms across Santa Barbara County through the mobile unit. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong attention to detail, provide compassionate care, and treat patients of all ages—from young children to the elderly—with kindness and professionalism. This is a part-time position about 16 – 21 hours a week; the schedule is flexible. To apply, please submit your resume to hr@seeintl.org.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Apply a comprehensive understanding of optometry principles and best practices to diagnose and treat eye conditions and disorders.
  • Conduct thorough eye exams using optometric equipment, interpreting diagnostic results to determine appropriate care.
  • Diagnose conditions such as myopia, astigmatism, presbyopia, and more, prescribing eyeglasses when medically necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic patient health records.
  • Recommend follow-up care and treatment options tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Address patient questions and provide expert advice regarding vision and optical concerns.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive experience for all patients.
  • Supervise and guide staff, contributing to the development and efficiency of the clinic.
  • Provide monthly support for the mobile unit in Carpinteria, conducting vision exams and offering eyecare services to underserved populations.
  • Visit local farms across Santa Barbara County as part of mobile unit outreach, ensuring that eye care is accessible to agricultural workers and other local residents.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and clinic staff to ensure seamless and continuous care for mobile unit patients.
  • Prioritize patient safety and comfort, adapting care environments in the mobile unit to meet available resources and space constraints.
  • Communicate effectively with patients in both clinic and mobile settings, clearly explaining care plans and follow-up procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, building rapport with patients of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards of care at all times.
  • Exhibit excellent problem-solving, multitasking, and organizational skills to manage the demands of both clinic and mobile unit settings.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
  • Experienced with direct entry in EHR software. REV EHR experience a plus
  • Reliable transportation (travel is required)
