Meet Allison Jarstad, M.D.

Dr. Jarstad is a MSICS L1 faculty member. UC Irvine was the first course she was was a faculty member for in 2019, and she also served as a faculty member for our L1 course in Hawaii/HE in 2020. Dr. Jarstad grew up in the suburbs outside Seattle, Washington, attended the University of Utah to run track and graduated with a degree in Mathematics in 2006. After graduating she returned to Washington and spent 3 years working at Weyerhaeuser Company in their tax department and decided pretty quickly to go to medical school. She then graduated from Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, Washington in 2013 where she was awarded Student Doctor of the Year and was a member of Sigma Sigma Phi (the osteopathic equivalent to the AOA). Dr. Jarstad then completed her Transitional Internship at St Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York followed by ophthalmology residency at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse. She returned to the West coast to complete a cornea, external disease and refractive surgery fellowship at the University of California, Irvine. She then completed a Global Ophthalmology Fellowship at Stanford University working with Dr. Geoff Tabin and the Himalayan Cataract Project. She now works at SoCal Eye in Long Beach, California which allows her to teach the fellows and residents at UC Irvine and continue international Ophthalmology work with the Himalayan Cataract Project.
