We provide essential and transformative eye care and surgery around the world
We bring medical volunteers and partners together to care for the people who need it most. Our teams work side-by-side with local doctors and clinics to improve access to high-quality eye care and surgery. Together, we break the cycle of hardship that visual impairment causes, making patients, families, and communities healthier and stronger.
Nearly 90% of the world’s blind population live in areas without access to high-quality eye care. Host doctors in underserved locations around the world invite SEE ophthalmologists, optometrists, and eye care professionals to work side-by-side in providing sight-restoring surgeries and preventative eye screenings to patients in their communities.
In a routine five-day program, SEE doctors can treat hundreds of patients in need of eye care. Cost-effective procedures, including manual small incision cataract surgery, allow an individual’s sight to be completely restored for as little as $25 — which we provide to all patients free of cost.
Our network of over 650 medical volunteers is dedicated to establishing more sustainable eye care systems around the world. Every SEE program clinic includes skills-exchange opportunities, where traveling doctors, host doctors, and other eye care professionals in the area share their education and skills with one another to encourage the development of sustainable eye care systems everywhere.
Individuals who regain their sight also regain their livelihood. With their sight restored, they can return to school or work, and live independently without relying on their families for constant care. Accessible, high-quality eye care can break the cycle of hardship brought upon by preventable blindness, making patients, families, and communities healthier and stronger.
